Care and Support

3:1 care team

This young person’s needs included Foetal Alcohol Syndrome, ADHD and complex trauma. Prior to Protective Care Group, this young person had become increasingly physically aggressive with their existing care team and when agency staff were introduced to offer respite to his team, the lack of consistency triggered further behaviours. The young person was not in any form of education and rarely spent much time outside of his placement due to risk of harm he may cause members of the public and his team.

Protective Care Group began supporting this YP in early 2024. To ensure a more comfortable transition for the young person, Protective Care Group started to slowly introduce their new team alongside his current care team.

Alongside this, a tailored care placement was designed in collaboration with the Local Authority and informed by the rest of the multi-disciplinary team. A month into transition, the full 3:1 care team was put into place. This team was specifically chosen due to their resilience, empathy and ability to adapt to the young person’s specific needs.

Following this, the team made getting outside to the beach a priority as it was something the young person really enjoyed. Through experiences like this, and an approach to care that was specially tailored to this young person’s physical, mental and emotional regulation, the care team began to see the number of physical interventions with the young person drop significantly, as demonstrated by the below graph.

The progress this young person has made through our approach has been impressive. Even when moving to a new location, the young person’s care, team and regulation remained stable and consistent. Through their care team’s coaching, the young person is now accessing education and following the move, have enjoyed lots of new experiences and activities, like going to theme parks.
