Case study
Male aged 10
Location: Guernsey
Care and Support
3:1 days, 2 sleeping, 1 waking night initially
PCG took over his support package in late February 2024 on the Island of Guernsey. The local Authority contacted us having been recommended to them by Mike McBride at PRICE Training who we work very closely with.
The above graph shows the number of physical restraints for a young male named ‘O’.
The child was being looked after by the Local Authorities in-house provider who admitted they just could not manage or control him, and he was extremely aggressive towards them, often attacking them unprovoked. The team were in crisis themselves and were down, depressed and needed respite. The LA were trying hard to bring in new agency staff, but the constant changes in the care team were just making matters worse.
PCG started by introducing 2 new team members and worked within the current LA provision, after a month it was decided that a full PCG team should be put into place and from then the number of restraints began to drop.
One of the first things the team did was to purchase the YP a pair of wellies, they took him to the beach and played in the sea. He commented that it was such a fun day and he loved it. Due to his behaviour the original care team were not confident in taking him outside at all as he would so often deregulate and at times hurt members of the public.
The team continued to work with him, introducing small amounts of education and focusing on his achievements, no matter how small. The trust grew and thankfully no restraints have been necessary in the last few months. We are so very proud of his achievements, learning self-control and being able to manage his emotions. He was voted our YP of the Quarter in October and received a prize.
Cafcass, the Judge overseeing his case and Grandparents made the decision that he could move over to Mainland UK in the care of PCG as this would open so many more opportunities for him, and as such the YP now resides in a property in West Sussex, close to Gatwick so his grandparents can visit regularly. We are starting OFSTED Registration for this placement very shortly.
This YP aged 10 years suffers from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, ADHD and Trauma.
